Analysis

To carry out an analysis of a model with one or more Finite Element surfaces, the model has to be analysed using the space frame version of the Masterframe analysis engine. Therefore, to run the analysis, select Analysis>Static Analysis>Space Frame.

Note: The Masterframe FE analysis uses four sided quadrilateral elements. The FE surface must be planar. Therefore, the elements currently employed are not suitable for 2nd order analyses. As such, therefore, the current FE elements are not suitable for use in a P-delta analysis.

The Finite Elements are also not suitable for use with the old style member based stiff deck. The older stiff deck used an enhanced minor axis stiffness for members, which then leads to ill-conditioning in the stiffness matrix. Therefore, where a stiff deck is required in a model containing Finite Elements, the new semi-rigid stiff deck needs to be used.
