Columns

Here you change the number and diameter of the reinforcement bars in the column.

If symmetrical reinforcement is activated in the Basic defaults then you cannot change the internal yy axis reinforcement.

Link patterns define the size and arrangement of links that restrain the main reinforcement. Every other bar should be restrained.

Column link patterns.

MasterSeries contains link patterns that give the engineer the flexibility they need. You define the number of link legs in each direction.

1 – Single Link,

2 - 2 links.

1 outer &

1 diamond link

3 - 3 legs.

1 outer link &

1 middle link

4 - 4 legs.

1 outer &

1   width link

5 - 5 legs.

1 outer, 1   width & 1 middle link

6 - 6 legs.

1 outer &

2 sausage links

7 - 7 legs horiz.

1 outer, 2 sausage &

1 middle link

8 - 8 legs horiz.

3 sausage links

9 - 9 legs horiz.

The Restraint and Bracing arrangements are calculated from the frame geometry and global values set in Basic Data and Defaults. Any restraint and bracing details set to global will use the frame geometry and default values . If “Symmetrical Reinforcement” is set in Basic Data and Defaults then Y-Y internal reinforcement is equal to the X-X internal reinforcement and their input boxes are greyed out.

Should you wish to over ride these you can change them. Reference should be made to BS8110-1:1997 Cl 3.8.1.5 & Tables 3.19 & 3.20 or EC2-1-1:2014 Cl 5.8.3.2. The 'bracing' to the top of the column can be set to Deep, Shallow, Nominal or Free. The 'bracing' to the bottom of the column can be set to Deep, Shallow or Nominal. The effective height of the column can be changed if the column is considered to be 'braced'.
