MasterKey Concrete Slabs

The design of simple concrete slabs that comply with the simplified rules in BS 8110-1 cl 3.5 or to EC2 can be designed in a separate module that comes with MasterKey Concrete Beams, namely MasterKey Concrete Slabs.

The program is accessed from the MasterSeries front screen and selecting "Concrete Slabs".

These slabs are limited to the following:-

Function

Limits

Slab Section Capacity

None

1-way Simply supported Slab

Full dead and live UDL only.

1-way Continuous Slab

Full dead and live UDL only BS 8110 Pt1 Cl 3.5.2.3 & Table 3.12

Imposed/Dead does not exceed 1.25

Imposed load max 5 kN/m2.

2-way Simply supported un-restrained Slab

Full dead and live UDL only BS 8110 Pt1 Cl 3.5.3.3 & Table 3.13

2-way Continuous restrained Slab

Full dead and live UDL only. BS8110 Pt1 Cl 3.5.3.4 & 3.5.3.5 & Table 3.14 & 3.15

Imposed/Dead does not exceed 1.25

Imposed load max 5 kN/m2.

If these limits are not met then use MasterKey Concrete Beams.

The 5 different slab types can be selected on the 'Briefs (Slabs...)' tab.

Basic Data tab

Set the slab depth, its height and width and the service loading on the Basic Data tab.

Also set the bar diameters and pitches for the middle bottom and support top reinforcement.

Each time a parameter is changed the calcs will automatically update themselves.

Additional Reinforcement tab

Additional reinforcement can be added to (or used to replace) the bars in either direction of the mid-span or at any of the supports.

Covers, Grades and Defaults tab

Specify the top and bottom covers to the reinforcement, aggregate size, concrete and reinforcement grades and the concrete density.

Set the minimum bar diameter and the min/max and default bar pitches for auto design.

Decide whether the bottom reinforcement should all carry out to the supports or only use half of it.

Mesh diameters can also be included in the list of bar sizes, eg, 5mm, 7mm and 9mm bars.

An auto design option is available. This can be based on using a minimum area of reinforcement, min dia of bar or a max pitch.

To auto design the slab, click on the 'AutoDesign' option or the icon  on the top menu or toolbar.
