Moment Connections - Connection Types
The design of rigid moment resisting connections is carried out in accordance with the joint model and design methodology as given in the SCI Green Book publications. The range of connection types covered by the MasterKey: Moment Connections module are:
Hollow Section Splice (end plate)
Column to Beam (beam above or below the column)
The connection types feature the following features which can be added as necessary by the user.
Left, right and double connection types
Extended end-plates
Haunches checked for stability of the cut
Beam and column web stiffeners can be added
Gusset and/or full width stiffeners can be included
Morris, diagonal, K and double plate stiffeners
Design of welds includes haunch welds
Bolts can be specified as 4 per row, with the extended end plate being able to be defined separately
Left and right connections
Extended end plates
Haunches checked for suitability of cut
Beam web stiffeners can be added
Design of haunch welds
Backing plates
4 bolts per row
Includes open I- and H-sections and hollow sections
Stiffeners can be specified and added
Circular base plates for use with CHS column section
Asymmetrical bolt arrangements for base plates with moment, axial and shear
Axial up lift for symmetrical base plates
Columns can be offset laterally
Bolts can be specified in up to four rows, with multiple bolts per row.
Shear keys can be added, formed from plates, angles or stubs cut from standard open or closed sections.
Connections include for the design of axial, shear and moments
Internal as well as external plates can be added
Web cover plates or end bearing end-plates
Option to select part welded connection
Direct bearing or non-contact
Option to specify minor axis moments
Option to input strut action internal moments in line with SCI AD243
Asymmetrical bolts arrangements can be specified
Bolts can be countersunk
Includes the design for both HSFG bolts and ordinary bolts in close tolerance holes
HSFG bolts can be specified as non-slip at service or at ultimate limit state
Connection design includes axial, shears and moments, including minor axis forces and moments
