Defaults
The Defaults menu allows for the standard design parameters to be set for use with the automatic design of the slab reinforcement. The defaults area also allows the desired bar diameter and spacings to be defined to then control the reinforcement arrangements as determined by the auto design. The default parameters are intended to apply globally within a model, though for each individual design there are options available to modify or use different parameters than the default values.
The Defaults are can be accessed using the
icon, or by clicking on the
icon in the Auto Design area. The layout of the Defaults are is shown below.

Grades & Cover
The grades and cover defaults allow the default values for the reinforcement grade and orientation to be defined along with the grade, default size and bar angle for the punching shear. The design option will amend the axial force in the slabs to be calculated using the Wood & Armer formulation to account for the isotropic nature of the FE surface versus the orthotropic nature of reinforced concrete.
Basic Rebar
The Basic Rebar area allows for the definition of the default reinforcement bar size and spacing for use with in the Basic Rebar areas.
Peak Zones
The Peak Zone area defines the default set up for the peak zones. This includes the default size and shape of the peak zone, the number of zones for reinforcement design and whether the peak zones are to have fixed (user defined) reinforcement or to permit auto design.
Strip Zones
The Strip Zone areas allows the default strip widths and hence shape along with rebar orientations (relative to the strip) to be defined. The default settings for auto design can also be defined to determine whether the default is to allow auto design for the reinforcement.
Auto Design Bars
The Auto Design area allows for the allowable reinforcement bar diameters and bar spacings to be defined for each reinforcement direction.
Detailing
The Detailing area allows the default detailing method to be determined for use with serviceability and detailing design checks. The options allow for multiple bars to be either spaced alternately or to be bundled. There is also an option for bar spacing to be checked using Table 7.3N from EC 2.
Defaults drop down
Once default design parameters have been set up, the Default drop down provide the ability to save the set up as the default settings for all subsequent slab designs.
