Snap Grid Orientation

The orientation of the snap grid will usually follow that of the particular view you are looking at. So, if you select the floor plan from the viewing list, the grid will sit in the XZ plane at a Y value of 0.0m.

If you select a view on the front elevation, the snap grid will default to the XY plane.

And if you select a view on the side elevation, the snap grid will default to the YZ plane.

This can be verified in the Snap Grid Settings.

If we switch back to the 3D view, the snap grid can also be seen in the YZ plane.

The snap grid will also revert to whichever orthogonal axis we set the frame to.

As we move through the frame views, the snap grid will also follow the orientation of the views.

The origin of the snap grid can be set in the Snap Settings or by holding down the ‘Ctrl’ key and picking a point on the screen/frame.

The orientation of the snap grid can be rotated by entering an angle in the snap settings and clicking ‘ok’. This can make the placing of a new member even easier if it lies off the orthogonal axes.
