Design Workflow

Unlike the slab design, where the first step is to define the basic rebar and then refine the design with peak and strip regions, the design of wall pier and coupler beams are independent of each other and so there is no requirement to carry out the design in a specific order.

With the pier and coupler beams acting as independent designs, it also possible to overlap the design regions , using both a wall pier and a coupler beam to examine the design of a specific region. There may be cases where the behaviour of a region lies somewhere between a pier and a coupler beam and so it may be desirable to review both designs. However, the reinforcement in each design takes no account of the other design methodology.
